Random Thoughts on PostieCon

I am very excited to be doing this post today because I know how to use bullet points with Typepad.  I don't know how to use bullet points with Wordpress, so I can never do bullet points on my own blogs.

  1. I was very excited to see that Ashley and Dan Rua were also going to be on the same plane as Mrs. Fab and I going home, because I figured that increased the chance we would make it home safely.  What are the odds that four icons such as us would all go down in one air disaster?
  2. The one moment I will remember and cherish above all others about PostieCon is when Ted was freaking out in the men's room as he realized that the food coloring from the cake plow frosting was not coming off...
  3. Ted throws a helluva party.  The shindig at Tao was nothing short of spectacular.  Pretty girls and boys would bring us tray after tray of mouth-watering appetizers, open bar, good music...it was pretty cool.  Sure, that's how Ted lives all the time, but it was nice of him to give us a glimpse into his world.
  4. Every single Izea employee I met was very cool.  I can't remember everyone's name, so I am not going to mention anyone, except for Shaun, who was kind enough to give me an update on the Florida--South Carolina game during the party.  Seriously, either you have to pass some sort of NIce Test to work at Izea, or Ted threatened everyone to be on their best behavior.
  5. If you couldn't make it to PostieCon07, please try to make it to PostieCon08.  You won't be sorry.  Trust me.

If I could only use one word to sum up PostieCon..

It would be...wow.

I had a blast.

You'll be reading on a lot of Postie blogs about the unveiling of SocialSpark.  In fact, you can get Colleen's early take on it here.  I'm very excited about it.  But right now I just want to say a few words about all the great people I met.  You know me, I'm a people guy.

The highlight for me?  A massive cake plow held right after lunch.  If you'd like to see a video of it, you can do so over at BenSpark.com.  I would like to thank my new best friend Courtney for not only being the first person to ever lick my head, but for doing it three times.

The conference was great, the discussions and Q&As were great, and the unveiling was tremendously exciting, but I knew going in that the real reason I wanted to be there was to meet my fellow bloggers.  I have met quite a few bloggers in my time, and it's always been a most enjoyable experience.  I think these last few days have been even more special, partly because of the large number of bloggers I met, and also because, As Posties, we have that special additional bond that really brings us together.

We may have, for the most part, been meeting each other for the first time, but we certainly were not meeting strangers.

And if you really want to have a good time, take a dozen or two Posties and add alcohol.  Oh boy!

I hesitate to list people, because I know I will forget some, but I'm going to take a shot.  I know I am leaving some people out.  It's nothing personal, I have a poor memory.  And normally I would link everyone, but I'm a little pressed for time this morning as I have a bit of an emergency on my hands (I left my cellphone in a cab last night, and I have no idea what company it was).

So...Colleen: I am never sitting with you again, Courtney: make sure you hit me up next time you are collecting donations for a ride, Julie: you better get that boa back to me, Tricia: I hope you feel better soon, Chris: you're a wildman and I love ya, Lisa: Maybe next time you'll let ME win something, Alli: you dance like a stripper when you're inebriated and I dig that, Karen: you are the epitome of class and grace, Cass: don't you EVER say that I'm not funny, Brett: thanks for teaching me how to be the coolest guy in the room, Drew: I want to live next door to you, Jenn: I assume I scare you because you never talked to me, Heather: thanks for teaching me about Canadian geography, Techie: you're a really nice guy and that freaks me out a little...

I feel like I'm writing in my high school yearbook.

It was great to meet all you guys, and hang with you, and party with you, and cake plow with you.  I can't wait to do it again next year.

In a few days I'll be talking about the Izea peeps.  Heh heh.

Who's up for some cake?

The countdown has begun...

This time tomorrow, Mrs. Fab and I will be in the air on our way to Las Vegas for Blogworld and PostieCon.

I haven't packed yet.  I am busy taking care of more important things, like practicing my Texas Hold'em skills and trying to find all my casino slot machine cards from the last time we were in Vegas.

I am very excited to be meeting all the Posties that will be attending, and it will be good to see Ted and Karen and Peter and all the fine Izea folks again.  Gee whiz, after the focus group this summer I kind of figured that we would all be best friends and I would see them all the time.  I envisioned Ted as a Gatsby-like figure, throwing huge, fabulous parties in his enormous mansion, and we would all drink and dance and swap stories about when we were in the war...

Didn't work out that way.  He probably lost my number.  I'll be sure to give it to him again in a few days when I see him.

Speaking of number, a lot of you guys have mine, so feel free to shoot me a text or two and I'll let you know how I'm doing and what's going on.  You know I love the text messages.

Well...I guess I better pack. We are driving down to Orlando this afternoon and will stay at the hotel at the airport because it's an early flight out.  All those planes buzzing around...none of them every run into the hotel, do they?

Okay, Mrs. Fab is giving me the stink eye.  Time to get off the computer.

See ya in Vegas!

The votes are in for the best video

Congratulations to the top voted video for Ross the intern & Rosie.

Ross Mathews, intern for Jay Leno's Tonight Show, and Rosie O'Donnell are both in the top 3 site for the Celebrity Blog Category in the Blogger's Choice Awards!

We got some help from our Posties to recruit them! The mission was to give Ross & Rosie their best pitch on why they should attend PostieCon and the BCA's party at Tao Las Vegas. After the top videos were selected and posted on the blog our viewers voted on the best one. Congratulations to "The MC" for being the top voted video. We hope to see you Ross and Rosie in Vegas!

BCA Voting Complete - Making Corrections to Site

As planned, the 2007 Blogger's Choice Awards winners where selected last Friday, Oct. 19 at midnight. The actual winners will be revealed at the BCA VIP Party at Tao in Las Vegas on Nov. 10.

You may have noticed that the BCA site was continuing to accept votes over the weekend, even though voting had officially ended. We apologize for any confusion this may have caused. Later this morning the 2007 top 3 nominees in each category will be posted on the site for all to see. In addition, all votes will be zeroed out and 2008 voting will officially begin. These changes should have happened in unison at midnight on Oct. 19, but we ran into some issues that prevented that from happening.

It's important for everyone to understand that the official 2007 winners were selected at midnight on Oct. 19 as planned. Any and all voting over the weekend will not impact these results.

Get Ross and Rosie to the BCA's

Great news! Ross Mathews, intern for Jay Leno's Tonight Show, and Rosie O'Donnell are both in the top 3 site for the Celebrity Blog Category in the Blogger's Choice Awards!

Now we need some help from the Posties to recruit them! Your mission is to give Ross & Rosie your best pitch on why they should attend PostieCon and the BCA's party at Tao Las Vegas.

Some topics to consider:
- Perhaps you are coming and would like to meet the highest voted celebrity bloggers online today?
- Maybe your blog has been nominated within a top 3?
- Perhaps you would like to discuss blogging with Ross over a PPP yummy postini?
- Or is it you want to see them both on stage announcing the 2007 BCA winners?
Whatever your reasons, we think they would love to hear them! Remember, Rosie and Ross may see all these videos, so the better they are the more chances you have to fall into top 10 videos.

Let's do a little brainstorming, shall we? Here are a few ideas to get those creative juices bubbling and to help you get started:

- Puppets. Who doesn't like puppets? They're cheesy, funny, and can be made out of a paper bag or a sock.
- Rhyming. Why not write a ballad to Ross and Rosie about coming to PostieCon? You can act out your song, make it silly, and have fun with it. Let's have fun people :)
- Be a fan. How about a skit where you pretend to be Ross and Rosie's biggest fan! You can gush about the chance to meet them, having fun in PostieCon, and talk about how you can't complete each day without catching up on the latest news on their blog!
- Dress Up. Wouldn't it be fun to run into your closet and pull out that fancy dress or suit you only wore once? Dust it off and act like you're getting ready to be either Ross and/or Rosie's date to PostieCon. Talk about what you'll do when you're in Vegas, how fun PostieCon will be, and how proud you'll be when they win their coveted Best Celebrity Blogger award.
- Be famous. Pretend you're a celebrity - how about dressing like Britney Spears, Cher, John Travolta, or Arnold Schwarzenegger and lament not having been nominated for this awesome award and how you wish you could go. Talk about how Ross and Rosie should go and what they'll be missing out on if they don't!

1. Visit: www.postiecon.com and www.bloggerschoiceawards.com To learn more about the event.
2. Create a 30 second or less video that creatively recruits Ross and Rosie. The video should tell everyone why they should attend, and what they will be missing if they don't.
3. Focus on all that is surrounding PostieCon and the BCA Awards and how it will benefit all those who have voted for them on the BCA site.
6. Upload and email us your video at www.transferbigfiles.com - select your video and email it to postiecon(at)postiecon(dot)com. Videos specs are a .mpg/320x240/30 seconds or less. Rockstartup.com will be doing something special with them but it's a secret for now.
7. Deadline is October 17, 2007, by noon EST.
8. The 10 best videos will be selected by PPP and posted on our blog on October 18, 2007, for voting to determine who created the absolute BEST video.
9. The winner will be announced on Tuesday, October 23, 2007 by 6pm EST. He or she will win the ultimate bragging rights to carry into PostieCon!

$45 Opp - Blog America Tour Takes a New Turn

Ted said, "I want to meet as many Posties as possible on my way to PostieCon - make it happen." So the marketing team got together and decided to create an Opportunity for Posties to cover each tour stop. Wow! What a concept. If that idea was a snake it would have bit us. Blog America Tour

As a result, PayPerPost is offering to pay Posties $45 for covering the event stops in each city. Additionally, Posties at each stop will have the chance to win an iRobot. The iRobot goes to the Postie that brings the most canned food items to that event stop. All donations will then be delivered to a local food bank or shelter. It's nice to work a good deed into the plan... Ted's idea.

As part of the deal, PayPerPost will accept up to 10 Posties for each of the 9 tour stop cities, 90 slots total. That's more than $4000 in payouts. Nothing like this has ever been done before. Well, okay, it has. We just did something similar for CollegeFEST. But, it worked so well we decided to do it again. Turns out, this is the perfect way for PayPerPost to demonstrate the value of its network and the Posties that power it.

At each event you'll get the chance to speak with Ted, get an exclusive introduction to Argus, and help out a worthy cause with your canned food donation. And, as usual, Ted will have some other tricks up his sleeve... all good blog post material. It will be a blast and you'll get paid!

All active Posties qualify for this Opportunity. If you live near these cities, apply for the $45 BAT Opportunity by email at blogtour [at] payperpost dot com. Please include the following:

  1. Event City (see below)
  2. Your full name
  3. Daytime phone and
  4. PayPerPost user name.

NOTE: Deadline for submission is Oct. 19. All selected Posties will be notified on Oct. 22 and given specific details on exact event location and times. Selections are on a first come, first served basis. So don't wait! Once a city reaches 10 Posties, it's closed.

The $45 BAT Opp includes the following cities:

  1. Orlando, FL - Nov. 1
  2. Tampa, FL - Nov. 1
  3. Atlanta, GA - Nov. 2
  4. Tuscaloosa, AL (Alabama v. LSU) - Nov. 3
  5. Jackson, MS - Nov. 4
  6. Little Rock, AR - Nov. 4
  7. Dallas, TX - Nov. 5
  8. Albuquerque, NM - Nov. 6
  9. Phoenix, AZ - Nov. 6

The Tour will end in Las Vegas on Nov. 7, but we have other plans for that destination... if you haven't already heard, it's called PostieCon on Nov. 10. It's shaping up to be an awesome event, including a special VIP Blogger's Choice Award party at Tao nightclub. If you haven't registered yet, get on it. Time is running out.

So that's, that. What are you waiting for? You need to jump all over this fun and exciting opportunity! See you on the road.

PostieCon, BCAs, and more!

The Marketing department has been busy, busy, busy lately...with various upcoming projects. It's been a while since we've done a video confessional, and we have some exciting updates for both Posties and non-Posties alike, so Britt & thought we'd put a little something together for you. Not the most exciting video ever, but I figure it's a nice diversion from the average blog post.

We've got some news on PostieCon, Blogger's Choice Awards, and a few other things, so check-out these two videos when you have a few moments. (The video cut-out when we were almost finished and rather than bother the production guys to edit the two together, we decided to keep it raw.)

Video #2

As mentioned in the first video, here is the link for some information on hotel accommodations in the Vegas area: https://resweb.passkey.com/Resweb.do?mode=welcome_ei_new&eventID=53266. Most are pretty good rates but if you can find something better on your own, by all means feel free.

We're also heading-up to the Boston area tomorrow, for CollegeFest '07. We'll be documenting our trip so be on the lookout for a future RockStartUp episode. And if you're one of our Postie Reporters...we'll see you there!

Now that you know where we’re planning to stop, we need you to give us some local knowledge. Comment on this post with your suggestions about where to go and what to do in each city. We’d love to meet up with as many Posties as possible. But we need to know you’re out there.

We’re still putting our plan together, so it’s a great time to influence what we will do in your town. As soon as we nail down a final tour schedule we’ll be sure to let everyone know.

We’d also like to let Posties hitch-a-ride to PostieCon, but we’re still trying to figure out the details… legal and insurance wise. However, if you’d like to jump on we want to hear from you. Send your request to britt [at] payperpost dot com. Include your name, location and a phone number. No guarantees.

See you on the road!

I realize that the travel expense is a big factor for many of you so I am going to offer another opportunity to be my guest and attend PostieCon on PPP. If you haven't checked out the speaker lineup lately you should, we have some awesome bloggers attending.

Haven't registered yet? Well what are you waiting for? Time to get rockin'! Register now!

Announcing PostieCon Street Team!
Yesterday we introduced an opportunity to get into PostieCon '07 for FREE! Yes, for FREE! And it's simple: BE A PART OF THE STREET TEAM. Want to know more? Here's what to do: Spread the word about PostieCon to as many people as you can.

Here are a few suggestions:

- E-mail your friends coworkers, and long-lost relatives
- Blog about it
- Put a PostieCon badge on your site
(and don't forget to ask people to note that you referred them!)
- Tell others to blog about it
- Call family and friends who blog (or who might be interested in learning more about blogging)!

If at least five people you refer register* then your admission to the event is free! Even if you have already registered for PostieCon you're still eligible (yep, we'll credit your account if you get 5 or more people to sign up). Just make sure the people you refer provide the e-mail address you registered with as their referrer.

*When registering, your friend will be asked to enter the e-mail address of the person they were referred by. That's you! So make sure and tell them or else you won't get credit for the referral.

PostieCon Badges
Due to travel, many of you are not going to be able to make it to PostieCon in June, I know. We'll miss you for sure! But even though you won't be attending you can still promote the event, if you want. We've got some really cool badges you can put on your site, telling folks about it! It sure would help us out.

Here are a few:

You can get your PostieCon '07 badges here.

'Living Life Online'
As you might've read here on the blog last week Sherry Heyl is one of the speakers appearing at PostieCon '07. Actually, she's going to be leading a conversational session titled 'Living Life Online.' Sounds like it's going to be pretty interesting, and Sherry's looking to have those in the audience take active participation in the conversation. What a great way to learn!

Anyhow, I was visiting Sherry's blog a few days ago and in a post titled 'Living Life Online' on 3/14 she dove a little deeper into this topic, and also mentioned she would be talking about it at PostieCon. Thanks, Sherry! You should visit Sherry's blog if you have some time and give her some love! (Her site actually has some great information about ideas & innovations in social media, I think.)

I also added her MySpace profile to our MySpace friend network.

Doh! I forgot one thing...
Travis or another RockStartup film crew member will be accompanying me to the airport to pick up the winner of the PostieCon contest. If you are really camera shy you can request that he doesn't tape it, but I would love to have one of you be part of the show.

Be My Guest at PostieCon
I realize that some of you can't afford the trip to PostieCon and I want as many of you to be able to come as possible. We are already giving away free blogger conference passes to every 50th person who signs up, but this morning it dawned on me that the airfare and hotel could still be to much for some of you. I starting thinking...how can I pay for someone's entire trip to PostieCon? I think I have the answer.

Over the next 30 days you have an opportunity to earn a trip to PostieCon. The person who converts the most new Posties off of their affiliate badges (includes review my post and regular affiliate badge) between today and April 12 wins. PayPerPost will pay for your airfare, give you free admission to the conference and pay for your hotel in downtown Orlando. I will even pick you up at the airport personally!

I can't wait to see who wins. Good luck to you all.

Sherry Heyl to Speak at PostieCon
I am delighted to announce that Sherry Heyl of What a Concept is the latest speaker we have added to the roster at PostieCon. Michelle Madhok to Speak at PostieCon!
If you ever use Technorati you probably recognize that name from the little famous blogger profiles that they do on the homepage. I have interviewed Michelle before and she has a lot of insight to offer bloggers and advertisers alike.

Michelle is the founder of Shefinds.com and is definitely a Rock Star blogger. She has used her blog to help propel the visibility of Shefinds.com and has created a loyal following in the process. We are extremely excited to have Michelle join our list of speakers! Check out her site!

Guitar Hero 2 Rock Off at PostieCon
What better way to celebrate the rock star theme at PostieCon than with a tournament style Rock Off featuring Guitar Hero 2. Do you have what it takes to beat down Veronique??? She is a hard core Guitar Hero fan and she plays dirty! What about DaSnipe? He looks like a gamer.

Guitar Hero 2

Competitions will be going on throughout both days. The final battle will take place on stage at the PostieCon awards banquet with $1000 in prizes going to the winner. It is going to be awesome. I can't wait to see who wins.

Looking For Some Blog Designers
I would like one of the Panels at PostieCon to be about blog design. We will talk about what makes a good blog design and give members of the audience a chance to have their blog design critiqued by our panel of experts. I am looking for three professional web designers to be part of the panel. I know that a lot of people fancy themselves as designers, but I am looking for people who do this everyday as their job (and are good at it). Bloggers are paying good money to attend this event and they deserve the best of the best.

What's in it for you? Free registration at PostieCon! If you think you have what it takes to be part of the panel please send Britt an email at britt [at] payperpost dotcom with a link to your design portfolio.

Along the same lines we are also looking to hire a few more web designers. Who knows, you might speak at the event, get a free pass and a kick ass job!

Whew! So the "PostieCon" team
Whew! So the "PostieCon" team has been diligently working over the past few weeks to get the site up-and-running, and I think it looks great! Yay to the following folks:

- Britt
- Marty
- Jamie
- Mark
- Ted
...and lil' ol' me.

Here's me and Britt earlier today, talkin' about the launch!

Q: What is better than PostieCon?
A: A Free Pass to PostieCon!!

You know that I love to give things away to our loyal Posties and PostieCon will be no different. We are going to hook you guys up with all sorts of stuff... starting today. Every 50th person who registers and pays will get hooked up with a free pass to the event. We won't charge you a dime! We want as many Posties to come as possible, you might wind up with an extra $200 in your pocket to spend.

I want to answer a few questions from the boards:
1. Is the registration fee refundable? No, it is not refundable. We have a limited capacity and we can't afford to have people pull out given what we have committed to this event.
2. How many people are we expecting? We are shooting for a minimum of 250 and we top out at 400.
3. Can you transfer passes? If you need to transfer passes we will allow that, just don't scalp them outside the event : )

There is another way to get a free pass... become a speaker! If you are a well known blogger or advertiser with some professional speaking experience drop us a line and we will check out your background. You may be the right fit for our event.

Update:
Colleen Dugg Postiecon.

We appreciate the digg Colleen (or fifi). The more people we can get to this event the better the event will be.

OMG PostieCon is here!
I can't believe it but yes the Web site is up :) Get registering people because space is limited! remember to post your badge after you register on your blog. SPREAD THE WORD! www.postiecon.com

PostieCon Sponsorships
We have had a number of advertisers ask about sponsoring PostieCon. This is a great opportunity to get your product in the hands of Bloggers and connect on a personal level. The sponsorship packages are very affordable and we are open to all sorts of ideas. We want to make this awesome for Advertisers and Bloggers alike.

We are open to all sorts of ideas. From vehicle test drives to wine tastings, if you have a creative idea and a cool product we want to help you get infront of the people that can help it spread. Contact Joe Vaughn via email at joe (at) payperpost (dotcom).

Here comes PostieCon 07!
Britt, Marty and I have all been hard at work finalizing the major details for PostieCon 07. We're going to get with Ted early next week since he's back from London, and hammer out the topline logistics! Plan is to launch a site devoted to the event sometime next week, and then you'll find out everything you've been itching to know! And of course any pertinent updates will be available here as well as on our MySpace page. (There are going to be some exciting things leading up to the event so keep a close watch!)

Are you excited? I hope so! It's going to be an amazing two days of learning, sharing, networking and most of all having fun!

Start spreadin' the word 'cause we wanna blow this thing outta the water!

No SuperBowl For Me
Unfortunately I won't be catching the SuperBowl. To be honest I don't care much about the game, but I always like to see the commercials and it's always good to see friends. I am spending this Super Bowl Sunday in various airports.

From the looks of the comment stream here and on the forums there continues to be a lot of questions about PostieCon and the upcoming release. I am jumping on another plane on my way to San Francisco (where I will be for about 20 hours before I take a red eye to Ft. Lauderdale... so no Postie Patrol), but I will try to alleviate some of the confusion and answer some questions before I take off from Dallas.

Breilly-
I sent an email to Arrington, I don't think he's up for the controversy : ) I would love to have him at the event for the same reasons I list below.

Lisa Reneee-
I have been talking about segmentation for months, it should come as no surprise. Segmentation is very important for Advertisers and is a top request. This has also been in the news all week, Scoble is not the messenger. I'm sorry if you missed it, but I have been very public about this. There are other features in addition to segmentation that you may now just be hearing about, but if you are active on the boards you will find that super sleuth Posties have known about them for awhile.

Chad "The W" Smith-
Yes. WOW is right. As far as high profile bloggers goes he's got to be considered in the top ten. To be honest it was a long shot but I am so happy he accepted. I will see if Arrington will play Santa at the Christmas Party. Maybe he can give away some of the cool gadgets and software he gets to review.

Mr. Fabulous-
Not as interesting as the picture you sent! I walk by that at least 50 times a day when I am in the office. Too bad I haven't been in the office much lately… you should send me a desktop wallpaper.

Colleen-
The fact that this event is open doesn't mean that this event isn't designed specifically for Posties. It is open because it is all about creating the best experience possible for the Posties. More diversity in bloggers, more diversity in speakers and a bigger event in general. I know that may sound counter intuitive, but it is the truth.

I am a firm believer in expanding your horizons, your network, your influence and your mind. Limiting this event to only Posties would limit the potential of the event itself and the value you might walk away with. This is about becoming a better blogger and you become better by sharing experiences and learning from others, whether they are Posties or not.

This is also a great opportunity to introduce potential Posties to the wonderful group of bloggers that make up our community. It's your chance to learn from others and to share your personal story with other bloggers. I know your passion for PPP runs deep and is infectious; I can't wait for other bloggers to meet you.

All that said… there will be some things outside of the general PostieCon limited to registered Posties only. You guys make this company possible and I know that.

Cass-
Believe my proper PPP cheerleader, Believe. I apologize for the issues with the puzzle, please know we are doing our best to refine procedures. Each of t
