BCA Voting Complete - Making Corrections to Site

As planned, the 2007 Blogger's Choice Awards winners where selected last Friday, Oct. 19 at midnight. The actual winners will be revealed at the BCA VIP Party at Tao in Las Vegas on Nov. 10.

You may have noticed that the BCA site was continuing to accept votes over the weekend, even though voting had officially ended. We apologize for any confusion this may have caused. Later this morning the 2007 top 3 nominees in each category will be posted on the site for all to see. In addition, all votes will be zeroed out and 2008 voting will officially begin. These changes should have happened in unison at midnight on Oct. 19, but we ran into some issues that prevented that from happening.

It's important for everyone to understand that the official 2007 winners were selected at midnight on Oct. 19 as planned. Any and all voting over the weekend will not impact these results.

Bye Bye Bots

We have been fighting the good fight against screen scrapers and bots for some time now and it is a battle that is too annoying and time consuming to continue. Every time we shut someone down a new person pops up. We have done our best to avoid having to implement Captcha again but I am afraid it has come to that point. In the release next week you will see a new and improved version of Captcha. It will no longer be at login, instead it will be at the point where you reserve an Opp.

This should help combat Opps being taken quickly by those trying to manipulate the system. Thank you for your patience with this, it has been an annoyance for all of us. Join me in wishing the bots farewell.

Afternoon Maintenance
The site will be going down this afternoon to roll out some bug fixes and a couple updates. It should be down no more than about 10 minutes or so.

Tonights deployment is postponed
Unfotunately, due to a power circuit failure at our racks in AT&T's NOC, we have had to postpone tonights rollout. It will be within the next week though so stay tuned.

Shiny new boxes
As many of you know, we recently moved office. The last part of that move is happening tomorrow when we move PayPerPost.com off the old Mindcomet servers they've been loaning us until this point, onto shiny new monster servers.

Obviously a migration like this can't occur without some downtime. So, tomorrow night at midnght (Eastern - GMT-5) PayPerPost.com will be taken offline for a maximum of 2 hours to move the database over to its new home.

We're not expecting any problems at this stage and have test deployed the application multiple times today to make sure everything is ok. We will be taking the opportunity though to remove some cruft from the database and generally make things a little snappier as a result.

So, all you avid Posties get tomorrow night from midnight off. Advertisers desperate to launch new opps at that hour should of course contact advertiser support and we'll take care of the new opportunities manually as soon as we are able.

Pete.

Site Update, Surprise!
Advertisers, bloggers, passersby, et al- we will be closing the site for about 1 hour as of right now. Please do not email support to report the site being down. We are updating the site and it should be back up by 4PM EST. We do apologize for the short notice. :)

Thank you!
